Mother's Spaghetti Meat Casserole

1 medium Onion
1# Ground Beef
1 Clove Garlic
1/2# Cheese-grated (optional)
1/2 Green Pepper
2 1/2 cups fresh or 1 can Tomatoes
1/4 cup bacon drippings
salt
pepper
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp MSG
3 cups cooked Spaghetti

Fry onion, garlic, green pepper in bacon drippings until limp, but not brown. Add meat and cook, stirring until seared. Add tomatoes, sugar, salt and pepper. Cover and simmer 30 minutes. Add a little water if it cooks too dry. Add spaghetti and cheese. Cook in dutch oven on top of stove or put in a casserole and bake in oven at 325 degrees for 1 hour.
