Cornbread

This recipe came out of VA and KY in 1804. It was never measured or written out until the 1920s.

1 cup cornmeal
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp soda
1 egg
1 Tbsp melted bacon grease

Do not sift meal. Mix altogether and bake in hot greased skillet at 400 degrees 35-40 minutes.
